Methods to Relax Quickly

Viparita Kirani Inspire Yoga and WellbeingEver found yourself in a stressful situation and needed to quickly come back to centre? These techniques will assist you in finding balance quickly. The more you practice these techniques, the easier they’ll become.
 
Breath Meditation
A simple method of meditation is to focus on the breath.
 
Begin by sitting in a comfortable position and start to focus on your breath; not changing your breath in any way, just watching your natural breath.
Continue watching your breath as it enters the nose, passes the throat and enters the chest.
Watch it leave the chest, then the throat and out of the nose.
Add a count: as the breath enters the nose count 1, passes the throat count 2, enters the chest count 3.
As the breath leaves the chest count 3, passes the throat count 2, leaves the nose count 1.
Continue in this way.
Inhale 1, 2, 3
Exhale 3, 2, 1
Continue for 3 to 5 minutes as long as you feel comfortable with the practise.
Notice how you feel.
 
 
Legs Up The Wall (Viparita Kirani)
If you’ve had a long, arduous day, a good way to restore is to take your legs up the wall.
 
Start by placing your right hip to the wall
Rotate towards the right, taking your legs directly up the wall, getting the buttocks as close to the wall as comfortable.
Remain here for 3 to 15 mins. Only remain in the posture if you are comfortable and there is no discomfort.
While in the posture, just notice the flow of your natural breath.
 
This posture is very calming. It has the added benefits of relieving sore, tired legs and lower back pain.
